Seoul: Doosan Group announced plans to invest 970 billion won (US$701.5 million) to expand its copper clad laminate (CCL) production capacity in South Korea and China. This strategic move comes in response to the increasing demand from artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.
According to Yonhap News Agency, CCL is an essential material used in the manufacturing of printed circuit boards (PCBs), which are integral to AI accelerators, network switches, and optical modules. These components are crucial for the efficient operation of AI data centers.
Doosan Group revealed its intention to allocate 420 billion won to enhance its domestic CCL production lines specifically for optical modules. Additionally, the company plans to invest 550 billion won in constructing a new plant in China dedicated to producing CCLs for AI accelerators and network switches.
The company outlined that these investments will be implemented in stages over the next three years, culminating in 2028. The new production lines are scheduled to commence operations sequentially in the second half of 2028.
