Seoul: The National Assembly on Thursday passed the confirmation motion for Supreme Court Justice nominee Kim Sung-soo. The motion was endorsed during a plenary session with a vote count of 227 in favor, 28 against, and 13 abstentions.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae had recommended Kim to President Lee Jae Myung last month as the successor to former Supreme Court Justice Lee Heung-ku. Following this recommendation, Kim underwent a parliamentary confirmation hearing on Monday. The confirmation hearing report was adopted by rival parties on Wednesday.
If President Lee approves the appointment, Kim will become the first Supreme Court justice to take office since the launch of the Lee administration.
