Toyota:The reigning Olympic pistol shooting champion, Yang Ji-in, is set to compete for her first Asian Games gold medal in Japan on Monday. She will participate in the women's 25-meter pistol event at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery, located in Toyota, near the main host city of Nagoya. Yang aims to secure not only an individual medal but also to lead South Korea to the team podium.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Yang previously won bronze in both the individual and team events at the 2023 Asian Games. She then clinched the individual gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Competing alongside Yang is Oh Ye-jin, who won the 2024 Olympic gold in the 10m air pistol event and is also taking part in the 25m event in Japan.
Oh Ye-jin recently finished out of medal contention in the individual 10m air pistol event at this Asian Games but managed to secure a bronze medal in the team competition.
In other events on Monday, weightlifter Won Jong-beom is also pursuing his first Asian Games gold. Having finished sixth three years ago, the 30-year-old will compete in the men's 95-kilogram category. He is the 2023 world championship silver medalist in the men's 96kg with a total lift of 384kg and won gold in clean and jerk at the 2024 World Championships with a lift of 214kg.
Additionally, the men's handball team is scheduled to face the three-time defending champions, Qatar, in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
