Seoul:President Lee Jae Myung made an unexpected visit to soldiers injured by a land mine explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), pledging due compensation.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee visited the injured soldiers at a military hospital, offering comfort to them and their families. The explosion, which occurred on September 21, involved two mines on the southern side of the DMZ, resulting in three soldiers being wounded, two of them seriously.
A joint investigation by the South Korean military and the United Nations Command (UNC) concluded that North Korean forces planted the mines, which the UNC described as a "violation" of the Korean armistice.
Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, dismissed these findings, accusing South Korea of fabricating results with malicious intent.
During his visit, President Lee urged the soldiers to focus on their recovery and assured them of full support for their treatment and rehabilitation. He emphasized the need for appropriate compensation for those wounded in action, highlighting its importance to military morale.
Lee instructed officials to review assistance measures and communicate results to the soldiers' families. His visit was conducted without media presence, respecting the privacy of the soldiers' families. The soldiers expressed their wish to continue serving their country in any capacity.
