South Korea Aims for Archery Gold Sweep at Asian Games

Okazaki:South Korea is set to pursue a gold medal sweep in compound archery at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday, focusing on team competitions.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean archery team has advanced to the semifinals in the women's, men's, and mixed team events. These events are taking place at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square, located about 50 kilometers southeast of Nagoya.

In compound archery, participants shoot at targets 50 meters away, a shorter distance compared to recurve archery. Archers in this discipline utilize mechanical release aids and magnified sights for enhanced accuracy.

The South Korean men's and women's teams will face India, which secured all five compound titles at the 2023 Asiad. In the mixed team semifinals, South Korea will compete against China, while India will play against Thailand.

In other events, the judo competition starts Wednesday at Aichi International Arena in Nagoya. Competitor Lee Ha-rim seeks his first Asiad gold in the men's -60-kilogram category after previously winning bronze and silver.

The men's football team is set to play China in the semifinals at Nagai Stadium in Osaka, aiming for South Korea's fourth consecutive gold medal. The women's field hockey team will meet India in the semifinals at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium, pursuing their first gold since 2014.

Additionally, the men's and women's golf tournaments will commence at Kasugai Country Club East Course in Kasugai. Notably, four-time PGA Tour winner Tom Kim will compete under his Korean birth name, Kim Joo-hyung.
