Kwon Soon-woo Withdraws from Asian Games Tennis Due to Injury

Nagoya:South Korea's Kwon Soon-woo retired from his third-round men's singles match at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games due to a knee injury. This development means that all four Korean singles players have failed to progress to the knockout stage.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kwon exited the match against Uzbekistan's Khumoyun Sultanov when he was trailing 3-0 in the first set at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center. This was Kwon's fifth appearance in the tournament, following two singles and two doubles matches.

With Kwon's departure, South Korea's singles players were all eliminated from medal contention. Hong Seong-chan was defeated in the men's singles second round, while Back Da-yeon and Ku Yeon-woo were knocked out in the women's second round.

South Korea, however, secured at least a bronze medal in the men's doubles event as Nam Ji-sung and Park Ui-sung advanced to the semifinals. They defeated Thailand's Pruchya Isaro and Maximus Jones 2-0 (6-2, 6-3) in the quarterfinals, ensuring South Korea's second consecutive men's doubles medal.

Due to the absence of bronze medal matches in tennis, all semifinal losers will automatically receive bronze medals. Nam and Park will face Ho Chenjui and Hsu Yu-hsiou of Chinese Taipei in the semifinals on Thursday.
