Seoul:Industrial output in South Korea declined in August compared to the previous month, marking a downturn for the economy alongside falling retail sales and facility investment.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the industrial production decreased by 1.3 percent in August. The mining and manufacturing sector, a significant component of the economy, saw a decline of 4.8 percent, largely attributed to the automobile industry. Conversely, the service sector experienced a slight increase in output by 0.5 percent.
Retail sales, which serve as an indicator of private spending, decreased by 1.8 percent during the same period. This decline was primarily driven by a decrease in the sales of durable goods, such as automobiles.
Facility investment experienced a significant drop, falling by 9.5 percent from the previous month, as indicated by the latest data.
