South Korea Falls Short of Eighth Consecutive Gold in Women’s Recurve Archery at Asian Games

Okazaki:South Korea was denied its eighth consecutive gold medal in the women's team recurve archery at the Asian Games, as the team settled for silver after a narrow 5-3 loss to India.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean team, composed of Lee Yun-ji, Kang Chae-young, and Oh Ye-jin, was defeated by India in the final held at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square. This marked the end of South Korea's winning streak in this event, which had been ongoing since 1998.

The team event involves each archer shooting two arrows per set, with a maximum score of 60 points available per set. Teams earn two points for a set win and one point for a draw, aiming to reach five points first. South Korea and India were tied after the first two sets, but India took the lead by winning the third set 55-51.

In the decisive fourth set, India's final arrow by Mohod scored a 10. Judges reviewed Kirti's first arrow to confirm whether it was an 8 or 9, ruling it a 9 and securing a tie in the set for India and the gold medal.

Both teams struggled with the windy conditions. In the first set, both teams scored 54, despite Lee and Kirti each hitting a 7. The second set saw both teams scoring 56. In the third set, South Korea's final arrows were all 8s, while India scored 8-9-10, taking the set and an overall 4-2 lead. South Korea started strong in the fourth set but finished with 8-9-9, while India scored 9-9-10 to win their first Asiad gold in the women's recurve team event.
