KB Kookmin Bank Data Breach Raises Concerns Across Banking Sector

Seoul:Customer information from KB Kookmin Bank has been compromised, intensifying fears of data breaches within the banking industry.

According to Yonhap News Agency, personal data of more than 100 KB Kookmin Bank customers were stolen through hacking. The breached information includes names, phone numbers, and encrypted identification. KB Kookmin Bank has assured that any damage caused by the breach will be fully compensated.

This incident follows a similar breach at Shinhan Bank, where personal information of approximately 25,000 customers, including annual income, names, and phone numbers, was leaked. Industry insiders report that the hackers, possibly operating from overseas, employed advanced artificial intelligence tools to carry out these attacks.

Shinhan Bank's breach is believed to be part of random AI-powered attacks targeting vulnerable online platforms. This situation highlights the need for financial institutions to enhance their security measures and prevent abnormal access attempts.

The broader financial industry is perceived to be at risk from AI-assisted attacks, prompting a call for immediate security assessments to identify and address potential vulnerabilities.
