South Korea’s Struggles Continue Despite Victory Over Uzbekistan

Yongin:South Korea secured a 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan on Tuesday night, but the win did little to showcase the team's potential, following a critical evaluation from defender Kim Min-jae.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Min-jae expressed dissatisfaction with the team's effort level after a goalless draw against Venezuela last week. Kim criticized the national team's performance, feeling that not all players were fully committed during the match, and urging his teammates to focus and play harder.

In the match against Uzbekistan, South Korea's performance was lackluster once again. Although they managed to take an early lead with a free kick goal by Son Heung-min, the team struggled to maintain control. Uzbekistan, ranked 59th in the FIFA rankings, managed to pressure the South Korean team frequently, dominating possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities.

South Korea's lack of cohesion was evident as they failed to effectively transition the ball from defense to attack. With Uzbekistan attempting 12 shots compared to South Korea's 10 and controlling 54% of the possession, the visitors posed a significant threat.

Substitutes Song Min-kyu and Oh Se-hun combined for the second goal in the 60th minute, providing a rare moment of offensive clarity. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo was instrumental in preserving the clean sheet, making crucial saves before being substituted late in the game.

The match was part of South Korea's first four fixtures under interim coach Robert Moreno. Despite an initial victory against Ecuador, subsequent matches have raised questions about Moreno's ability to lead the team, especially with the Asian Cup approaching.

The Korea Football Association has indicated that Moreno's future with the team will depend on the results of his first six matches. With two upcoming away games, Moreno faces mounting pressure to secure his position.
