Cyberattacks on South Korean Banks Involve Multiple IP Addresses

Seoul:Several South Korean financial institutions have been targeted in recent cyberattacks, with a significant number of internet protocol (IP) addresses used to conceal the attackers' identities.

According to Yonhap News Agency, these attacks have affected major financial companies including Hana Bank, KB Kookmin Bank, and Shinhan Bank, leading to breaches of customer information and sparking a major police investigation.

The Financial Supervisory Service has identified 28 IP addresses linked to the attacks. However, police have discovered that many of these addresses were used to obscure the hackers' locations. Investigators are working in collaboration with international partners to trace the attackers' paths.

The financial watchdog has provided the identified IP addresses and country-related details to the affected companies, highlighting the potential use of indirect connections by the attackers. In response to the severity of these incidents, the National Police Agency has established a specialized 28-member team to conduct a thorough investigation.
