Suwon:Choi Won-jun of the KT Wiz broke the single-season hits record in South Korean baseball on Wednesday. He collected his 203rd hit of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) season against the Samsung Lions at KT Wiz Park in Suwon, surpassing the previous record of 202 hits set by Victor Reyes of the Lotte Giants in 2024.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Choi and Reyes both entered their respective games on Wednesday with 201 hits. Choi achieved his 202nd hit with a double in the bottom of the fifth inning, shortly before Reyes reached the same number with a hit against the Kia Tigers at Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan.
Choi then secured his record-breaking 203rd hit with a bloop single to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning. He further extended his record by collecting his 204th hit with an RBI single in the eighth inning. Meanwhile, Reyes closed the gap with a single for his 203rd hit in the bottom of the ninth inning at Sajik.
Reyes still has a chance to surpass Choi's total as the Giants have four games remaining in the season, compared to only two more games for the Wiz. Notably, Reyes has not missed a game since joining the Giants and is the first player in KBO history to achieve multiple 200-hit seasons.
