Pyongyang:North Korea has conducted a test-firing of a tactical ballistic missile aimed at enhancing a crucial component of its weapons systems. The state media described the event as a "big success."
According to Yonhap News Agency, the test took place on October 12, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). The test aimed to verify the success of research efforts to technically upgrade an important core element, with the missile administration claiming it signifies a significant advancement in improving the performance and sophistication of North Korea's offensive weapon systems.
The announcement of the test came shortly after South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff detected multiple ballistic missiles launched from the Pyongyang area towards the East Sea. One of these missiles reportedly traveled over 900 kilometers, and a detailed analysis of their specifications is being conducted by South Korean and U.S. authorities.
The recent launches marked North Korea's 16th ballistic missile test of the year and occurred just nine days after a previous launch. The U.S. Pacific Command confirmed that Monday's launches involved two ballistic missiles.
Additionally, the test took place days after South Korea announced its successful test-firing of a domestically developed hypersonic glide vehicle, a move likely aimed at demonstrating its deterrence capabilities. This test was conducted following an incident on September 21, where a land mine explosion in the Demilitarized Zone injured three South Korean soldiers.
