Veterans Minister to Advocate for Military Service Benefits with Business Groups

Baku:Veterans Minister Kwon Oh-eul will engage with officials from major business groups to discuss enhancing benefits for discharged service members.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kwon is set to meet with Ryu Jin, chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries, to seek support for expanding the recognition of military service within the private sector. This initiative is part of a broader effort to increase compensation for discharged service members.

Following a revised law, all public institutions will be required to consider military service when determining pay grades and salaries starting in February next year. However, currently, only 37.8 percent of companies recognize military duty in their pay structures.

The veterans minister plans future meetings with additional business organizations, including the Korean Employers Federation, the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Korea International Trade Association, and the Korea Federation of SMEs, to further this initiative.
