Accra:The inaugural chief of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency (SCIA), Kim Ji-yong, reiterated his commitment on Monday to eliminate the "politicization" of investigations. Kim's appointment came after a significant restructuring of the criminal justice system that removed investigative powers from prosecutors.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim emphasized the negative impact of previous prosecutorial practices, stating that abuse of investigative powers was due to political influence. He assured the public that the SCIA would focus on fairness, neutrality, and procedural justice to build trust.
The SCIA, launched on October 2, was part of broader efforts to reform the prosecution system, which had faced criticism for allegedly conducting politically motivated investigations. Kim had previously pledged to address these issues by prioritizing the depoliticization of investigative processes.
