Lee Jae Myung Advocates for Early Transfer of Wartime Control

Seoul:President Lee Jae Myung has emphasized the need for South Korea to regain wartime operational control (OPCON) of its troops from the United States at an early date.

According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee expressed his views during a meeting with reporters commemorating his 500th day in office. He stated, "I think having the OPCON entrusted to another country and relying on it cannot be left as it is."

Lee further highlighted that South Korea is sufficiently capable of taking back OPCON and mentioned that discussions with the U.S. are progressing well in that direction.
