Seoul:The defense ministry has voiced "grave concerns" regarding North Korea's recent escalation of tensions along the inter-Korean border, which includes military threats and criticism of South Korean military operations. These operations were conducted in response to a mine blast last month that resulted in injuries to South Korean soldiers.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Ministry of National Defense issued a statement addressing Kim Yo-jong's criticism of South Korea's military actions, which are deemed legitimate under the Armistice Agreement. The statement also highlighted North Korea's role in heightening tensions through military threats.
The ministry explained that warning broadcasts and warning shots near the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) are defensive measures. These actions aim to prevent North Korean troops from violating the MDL and to deter any crossings.
In a commentary released by North Korea's state media, Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, threatened to deploy more weapons along the border. She also indicated plans to resume propaganda loudspeaker broadcasts, claiming that South Korea's warning measures have rendered the border area "very unstable."
