Accra:Seoul The Constitutional Court has granted an injunction that partially suspends a decision led by the ruling Democratic Party (DP) to exclude Rep. Lee Jin-sook, an opposition lawmaker, from a parliamentary audit. This decision allows her to attend a session scheduled for later this week.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the court's injunction prevents Lee from speaking on matters directly related to herself during the audit of the broadcasting and communications watchdog set for Thursday. The DP and several minor parties had passed a proposal to exclude Lee from the parliamentary audit conducted by the Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, citing potential conflicts of interest related to her past decisions and duties as head of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC).
Lee, who previously served under ousted former President Yoon Suk Yeol, challenged this decision with the People Power Party (PPP). They filed for an injunction and initiated a jurisdictional dispute with the Constitutional Court on behalf of PPP lawmakers. The injunction will remain effective until the Constitutional Court issues a final ruling regarding the National Assembly's authority.
This marks the first instance where the Constitutional Court has suspended the effect of a National Assembly resolution restricting a lawmaker's participation in a parliamentary audit. Following the decision, Lee expressed her approval, describing the court's decision as "natural" and confirmed her intention to attend the audit.
