Accra:Busan Authorities in the southeastern port city of Busan are gearing up for a third attempt to guide a shark back to the open sea after it has spent over a month trapped in a city canal.
According to Yonhap News Agency, a joint rescue team comprising municipal and Coast Guard officials will deploy a net secured to a pontoon to direct the shark out of the canal at Busan's North Port. The shark, known as "Bukang-i," was first seen in the canal on September 18, turning the canal park into a major attraction with over 1.6 million visitors as of Sunday.
Previous attempts to guide the shark back to the sea were unsuccessful, prompting officials to wait for the shark to leave the canal on its own. However, due to concerns about the shark's survival as water temperatures drop, a third attempt will be made. This operation will involve using one vessel to tow the net while another uses water jets to steer the shark toward the exit. Additionally, personnel will be stationed on the pontoon to prevent the shark from leaping over the barrier, a problem encountered during the second rescue attempt.
