Xi Jinping Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening China-North Korea Relations

Beijing:Chinese President Xi Jinping has reiterated China's dedication to bolstering relations with North Korea. This commitment was expressed in a letter sent to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, responding to Kim's message marking the 77th anniversary of China's founding, as reported by North Korea's state media.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Xi's letter emphasized the longstanding support between the two nations, which he described as geographically connected with a shared destiny. The communication highlighted the outcomes of Xi's state visit to North Korea in June, where both leaders agreed on deepening bilateral ties and enhancing strategic guidance for their development.

Xi expressed China's readiness to continue working with North Korea to nurture their traditional friendship, enhance mutual political trust, expand cooperation, and maintain close communication. These efforts aim to promote the well-being of both nations' peoples and contribute to regional and global peace and development.

The relationship between Pyongyang and Beijing had experienced tensions in 2024 due to North Korea's growing ties with Russia. However, both countries have taken steps to restore their historical ties, following Kim's participation in China's Victory Day parade in 2025 and Xi's visit to North Korea this year.

In a sign of expanding cooperation, the two countries recently inaugurated the Amnok River Bridge, connecting North Korea's Sinuiju with China's Dandong, further illustrating their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
