Seoul:Netflix has collaborated with over 80 production houses and involved more than 95,000 people, including staff, cast members, and production crew, over the past decade in South Korea. This collaboration has unfolded since the U.S.-based content streaming service launched its operations in the country, the company announced on Friday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the information was shared on a special webpage set up to commemorate Netflix's 10-year presence in South Korea. Since beginning its Korean services in 2016, Netflix has served as the lead producer or co-producer on over 200 Korean original titles. These productions were filmed at more than 100 locations across the country, encompassing both cities and villages.
Globally, about 80 percent of Netflix subscribers have engaged with South Korean content. Additionally, more than 200 Korean originals have featured in Netflix's global top 10 list since the company began compiling such data in 2021. Remarkably, one out of every three South Korean originals featured on Netflix has been the work of a first-time director or writer.
Netflix has also collaborated with 122 partners, including dubbing studios and subtitle specialists, to localize Korean content, enhancing its appeal to a global audience during this period.
