Incheon: A court of appeals has upheld a life sentence for a 63-year-old man convicted of murdering his son with a homemade gun and attempting to shoot his daughter-in-law and two grandchildren during a birthday party last year.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul High Court's branch in Incheon reaffirmed the lower court's decision, finding the man guilty of murder, attempted murder, and violating the firearms control law. The incident occurred in July 2025 at the victim's home in Incheon, where the man shot his 33-year-old son and attempted to kill four others.
The court stated that the crime was extremely heinous, with no special circumstances justifying a change to the original sentence. Prosecutors revealed that the defendant shot his son again while the victim pleaded for his life.
The man reportedly planned the crime after his ex-wife and son ceased financial support in August 2024. Prosecutors also discovered that the defendant was delusional, believing his former wife and son were conspiring to isolate him.
