Los Angeles:K-pop supergroup BTS secured three major awards, including Song of the Year, while BLACKPINK's Lisa made history as the first Asian solo artist to win Best Pop at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
According to Yonhap News Agency, BTS won Song of the Year and Best K-pop for their track "Swim" from the album "Arirang," and also clinched the Best Group award at the event held at the Peacock Theater. Despite their absence due to scheduling conflicts, the group expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the significance of "Arirang" as a new beginning.
BTS extended their record with a fifth victory in the Best Group category and marked their fourth win for Best K-pop. Meanwhile, Lisa's Best Pop win for "Dream," featuring Kentaro Sakaguchi, set a milestone as she surpassed global stars like Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift. This win adds to her accolades alongside three previous Best K-pop awards.
Lisa expressed her gratitude on stage, acknowledging her fans, known as Lilies, for their support. Additionally, during the ceremony, she delivered a performance of her new song "SaWaDiKa."
Other K-pop acts like BLACKPINK's Jennie, Cortis, and Katseye were nominated but did not win. Taylor Swift received the Video of the Year award for "The Fate of Ophelia," while Madonna was named Artist of the Year, taking home seven awards in total.
