BTS leader RM gets plaque for helping preserve Korean artifacts abroad

The leader of the K-pop boy band BTS RM has received a plaque of appreciation from the Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) for his contributions to preserving and restoring Korean cultural heritage held overseas.

The organization on Nov. 28 said RM received the plaque from CHA Administrator Choi Eung-chon.

Dated Oct. 31, the plaque read, “Through the utmost interest in and affection for our country’s cultural heritage and history, the individual has greatly contributed to fully preserving our cultural heritage abroad and making them widely known in the world.”

Last year, RM donated KRW 100 million to the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation to preserve and restore Korean cultural properties held overseas and gave the same amount to the foundation this year.

His first donation went to fund preservation efforts for a hwarot, a woman’s bridal robe from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. His second will go toward making brochures on traditional Korean paintings scattered globally at leading museums and art galleries around the world.
