Buddhist Sect to Showcase Cultural Heritage During UNESCO Meeting in Busan

Busan: The Jogye Order, South Korea's largest Buddhist sect, is set to host a series of events aimed at promoting Korean Buddhist culture and cuisine during the UNESCO World Heritage Committee session in Busan later this month, officials revealed Monday. The 48th session of the committee is scheduled to take place from July 19-29 in the southeastern port city, where various booths will be installed to highlight the Jogye Order's cultural assets.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the booths will focus on UNESCO World Heritage assets, such as the Tripitaka Koreana, a collection of Buddhist wooden printing blocks, and Tongdo Temple, which is part of the "Sansa, Buddhist Mountain Monasteries in Korea" classification. The Jogye Order is also preparing to invite international delegations attending the UNESCO meeting to a Buddhist cuisine dinner at Beomeo Temple in Busan.

In addition to the dinner, the sect will host a "K-dessert day" event designed to introduce participants to Buddhist desserts and finger foods. To further enrich the experience of the delegates, the Jogye Order has organized field trips to UNESCO heritage sites and traditional temples in Busan and nearby cities. These excursions will include visits to the renowned Buddhist temples of Tongdo, Bulguk, and Haein.
