Busan:Authorities are resuming efforts to guide a shark trapped in a canal back to the sea after an initial attempt earlier this week was unsuccessful.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the joint rescue team, consisting of city and Coast Guard officials, plans to begin the operation at 330 p.m. They will use a 50-meter-long and 6.8-meter-high net to help guide the shark, named "Bukang-i," out of the canal at Busan's North Port.
The operation will involve two vessels and ten personnel. One vessel will tow the center of the net, while five people on each side of the channel will synchronize their movements with the shark's speed to direct it toward the exit of the artificial waterway. The second vessel will be equipped with pumps to spray water streams as Bukang-i approaches the canal's exit.
During the previous attempt on Tuesday, authorities spent approximately five hours trying to guide the shark using only water streams, but Bukang-i managed to evade capture by swimming behind the boats. The shark, which has drawn over 600,000 visitors since it was first seen in the canal on September 18, has not been observed feeding. Authorities decided it was no longer viable for the shark to remain in the canal and met on Monday to finalize the rescue plans.
