Seoul—Celltrion Inc., a leading biopharmaceutical company in South Korea, announced plans to decide on a potential merger with its affiliate, Celltrion Pharm Inc., which specializes in chemical drug production. The decision is set to be made in an upcoming board meeting scheduled for Friday, with immediate communication of the outcome to shareholders.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the board will examine various factors influencing the merger decision, including a recent shareholder survey, potential synergies, associated risks, and external evaluations conducted by an ad hoc committee. This move comes as part of Celltrion Group's broader strategy to consolidate its listed entities—Celltrion, Celltrion Healthcare, and Celltrion Pharm—aiming to fortify its global presence in biosimilar and new drug development. Previously, in December, Celltrion merged with Celltrion Healthcare and has been planning the integration with Celltrion Pharm within this year. Notably, Celltrion ranks as the seventh-largest firm on the Korea Composite Stock Price Index in terms of market capitalization, valued at approximately 41.9 trillion won (US$30.6 billion).
