Celltrion: Celltrion Inc., a major South Korean biopharmaceutical company, announced plans to cancel 1.72 trillion won (US$1.14 billion) worth of treasury shares this month to enhance shareholder value.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the company intends to cancel 9.11 million treasury shares, which represent approximately 4 percent of its outstanding shares. This move surpasses the combined 1.59 trillion won worth of treasury share cancellations executed in 2024 and 2025.
A company official stated that the decision to proceed with the scheduled large-scale share cancellation on April 13 is aimed at strengthening shareholder value amidst growing uncertainty in the global economy.
Regarding the 3.23 million treasury shares that will remain after the cancellation, Celltrion plans to use these shares strategically to support future growth. This includes potential mergers and acquisitions, the development of new technologies, and facility investments.
