Seoul: ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform developed by OpenAI, has recorded the highest growth rate in smartphone app users among all applications available in South Korea this year, a survey revealed Wednesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, users of the ChatGPT app surged by 196.6 percent in November compared with January. This significant increase makes it the application with the most substantial growth, as indicated by a sample survey of 4 million smartphone users in Korea conducted by industry tracker Wiseapp Retail.
Following ChatGPT, Daiso Mall, the online platform of the popular discount store Daiso, ranked second with a growth rate of 31.9 percent. It was followed closely by beauty retailer Olive Young, which saw a growth of 30.8 percent, and Monino, an asset-management service app for Samsung Group’s financial affiliates, which registered a 28.1 percent increase.
In addition to its rapid growth, ChatGPT also emerged as the most-used smartphone app during the same period, with a monthly average of 16.7 million users. This was followed by Kakao Pay, which logged 9.1 million users, and Olive Young with 8.6 million users.
