Seoul:A conservative civic group has announced plans to hold daily rallies outside the home of actor Yoo Hae-jin in northern Seoul. The protests are in response to alleged historical inaccuracies in his film "The Assassin(s)."
According to Yonhap News Agency, the New Freedom Solidarity has informed police of their intention to stage rallies at 430 p.m. every day starting Saturday and continuing until the end of the month.
The controversy centers around the film, in which Yoo plays a leading role, as it depicts the 1974 assassination of former first lady Yuk Young-soo, the wife of the late former President Park Chung-hee. Critics from conservative groups and political circles argue that the film suggests Park's involvement in the incident, which they view as a malicious implication.
Kim Sang-jin, leader of the New Freedom Solidarity, stated to Yonhap News Agency that they are calling for Yoo to participate in right-wing movies to ensure political balance. He added, "There are many things we could raise suspicions about too, and we want him to appear in (films about them) too."
The production team behind "The Assassin(s)" has clarified that the film was not meant to present a new historical perspective or distort established historical facts.
