COVID-19 Cases Decline for Second Consecutive Week in South Korea

SEOUL, - South Korea has reported a 29 percent decrease in COVID-19 cases in the second week of November, marking a continuous decline for the second week, according to recent data.

According to Yonhap News Agency, The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency reported that there were 6,174 new COVID-19 patients during the second week of November, compared to 8,673 in the previous week. This decrease follows a modest 1 percent decline in the first week of November, which had come after a 19 percent increase the week before.

Among the new cases, individuals aged 60 and older constituted 39.2 percent, showing a slight increase of 0.7 percentage points from the previous week. This demographic trend is noteworthy as older populations are often more vulnerable to severe outcomes from the virus.

The South Korean government had previously downgraded the infection level of COVID-19 to Class 4, the lowest level, equating it with the seasonal flu. This reclassification occurred on August 31, reflecting the nation's evolving approach to managing the pandemic.
