Disability Rights Group to File Complaint Over Leader’s Arrest

SEOUL – The Solidarity Against Disability Discrimination (SADD), a disability rights advocacy group, announced its intention to file a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission regarding the arrest of its leader, Park Kyoung-seok. SADD alleges that the police used violence and failed to provide the Miranda warning during Park's arrest at Seoul's Hyehwa Station last week. Park, aged 63, was apprehended on charges of obstruction of business and violating the Railroad Safety Act. He was later released when prosecutors declined to issue an arrest warrant. SADD claims the arrest process violated Park's rights, citing the lack of Miranda rights notification.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Police, however, have stated that they informed Park of his Miranda rights. The complaint by SADD aims to address concerns over the alleged mishandling of the arrest and the broader issue of rights for individuals with disabilities in confrontations with law enforcement.
