Documentary features KOCIS-sponsored busking tour of Central America

The activities of a traveling artist troupe that promoted Korean culture in summer this year in Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Honduras will be unveiled.

The Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said it will air on Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. on MBCnet the documentary “Hola! Caravana K-Culture,” which features a KOCIS-sponsored busking band that toured the four Central American countries to promote Korean culture.

Marking the 60th anniversary of relations between Korea and Latin America this year, KOCIS in August organized the tour of the region, which has no Korean Cultural Center, to boost communication with youth there.

Comprising 10 students and graduates of Korea National University of Arts aka K-Arts, the band from Aug. 18-30 gave traditional cultural performances seven times on the streets of Panama (Aug. 8-19), Costa Rica (Aug. 22-23), El Salvador (Aug. 25-26) and Honduras (Aug. 28-30).

A ministry official said the upcoming documentary’s purpose is to share with Koreans and expats in Korea the fun and emotion of traditional performing arts in the region as well as allowing viewers to feel the attraction of Korean culture and the affection and passion of the young artists for traditional culture.
