SEOUL—The Doosan Bears announced on Tuesday the acquisition of former major league player Jared Young and the concurrent release of outfielder Henry Ramos. This move sees a significant reshuffle in the team's roster mid-season.
According to Yonhap News Agency, who previously played for the Chicago Cubs in Major League Baseball (MLB) and more recently in Triple-A for the St. Louis Cardinals, will join the Bears with a contract valued at US$300,000 for the remainder of the season. The 29-year-old Canadian has a batting average of .210 in his 22 MLB appearances and has shown notable performance in the minor leagues with a .285 batting average, 11 home runs, and 35 RBIs in 74 games this season. The Bears cited Young’s on-base skills and power as key factors in their decision, noting his 32 home runs over the past two Triple-A seasons.
Conversely, Henry Ramos, who has been released, had mixed results this season, batting .305 with 10 home runs and 48 RBIs in 80 games. Despite his solid offensive output, the Bears expressed dissatisfaction with his defensive performance and on-field hustle, which prompted a reevaluation of his role on the team. This decision followed a candid discussion between Ramos and Bears manager Lee Seung-yuop regarding Ramos' defensive efforts, highlighting the need for professional conduct on the field.
