DP Lawmaker Park Chan-dae Announces Candidacy for Party Floor Leader

SEOUL – Representative Park Chan-dae, closely aligned with the leader of South Korea's main opposition Democratic Party (DP), Lee Jae-myung, has declared his intention to run for the position of the party's floor leader.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Park, who is a member of the DP's Supreme Council and was re-elected for a third term in the recent general elections, expressed his ambition to foster a "two-top system" in party leadership alongside Chairman Lee, focusing on advancing reforms. "I announce my bid to run for floor leader of the DP with the goal to complete the mission bestowed by the people," Park said. He is the first in the party to formally announce a bid for the position, amidst discussions of about 10 other prominent lawmakers as potential candidates. The new floor leader of the DP will be elected on May 3.
