SEOUL — K-pop boy group Enhypen has embraced a new musical direction, unveiling a bright and romantic song from its upcoming album "Romance: Untold," which captures the heartfelt confessions of a young boy. The second full-length album from the group is set for release on Friday at 1 p.m., following its fifth EP, "Orange Blood," released last November.
According to Yonhap News Agency, this album marks a significant departure from their previous dark and powerful themes. "We've released many dark songs in the past, so it feels unfamiliar and nerve-wracking to return with a bright and sweet song as our main track," member Niki said during a media showcase in Seoul on Thursday. "However, we will approach our future activities with confidence."
Enhypen, known for its series of albums — "Border," "Dimension," "Manifesto," and "Blood" — is starting a new chapter with "Romance: Untold." The album's narrative focuses on a boy's devotion to a girl who has profoundly impacted him, metaphorically representing the relationship between Enhypen and their fans, known as Engenes. "It's a metaphor for the relationship between Engenes and Enhypen, who grow through the recognition and love from fans," Sunghoon added.
The album features 10 tracks, with the final one, a multi-language version of the fan song "Highway 1009," available exclusively on the physical album. The lead track, "XO (Only If You Say Yes)," is a romantic pop song expressing the boy's willingness to do anything for the girl if she agrees. Sunoo noted, "The melody caught my ear immediately, and I thought its catchy parts will likely appeal to fans."
Enhypen's artistic development is highlighted in the album, with all members participating in songwriting, composing, and producing. "Highway 1009," produced by Heeseung, includes lyrics by all members, making it particularly meaningful. Jake emphasized, "It's our first self-composed track involving all seven members."
Since their debut in November 2020, Enhypen has achieved significant success, including reaching million-seller status with their first studio album. Preorders for the upcoming album have already surpassed 2.2 million copies. Despite these achievements, the members remain modest. "I would be happy if many people recognize our music as distinctively Enhypen and enjoy it," Jungwon said.
