Ex-Justice Minister Criticizes South Korean President’s Response to Election Loss

SEOUL — Former Justice Minister Cho Kuk has strongly criticized President Yoon Suk Yeol's handling of the recent electoral defeat faced by the ruling party, questioning the president’s understanding of the public’s disapproval.

According to Yonhap News Agency, In response to President Yoon's statement where he accepted the election results and promised to enhance governmental communication, Cho argued on a popular YouTube news show that the President is missing the point about the root causes of the defeat. "The president is still not aware that he himself is the root cause of all problems," Cho remarked, suggesting that Yoon's insistence on the correctness of his policies is misguided.

Cho's critique comes after President Yoon acknowledged the need for better communication following a significant electoral loss, yet maintained his stance on continuing with major policy agendas like increasing medical school admissions. Cho, who launched the Rebuilding Korea Party shortly before the elections and won 12 seats, has been vocal about his criticisms of Yoon, who was prosecutor-general during Cho's own scandal involving academic fraud.

The former minister's sharp rebuke included a parody of a famous U.S. campaign slogan, indicating a tough road ahead for the president in regaining public trust.
