Ex-President Moon Set to Visit U.S. for Discussions on Inter-Korean Ties

Seoul: Former President Moon Jae-in is set to depart for the United States on Thursday, marking his first visit to the U.S. since leaving office in 2022. The visit underscores ongoing diplomatic efforts regarding inter-Korean relations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the trip comes at the invitation of U.S. think tank RAND Corp. and the Pacific Century Institute. Moon, who served as South Korea's leader from 2017 to 2022, is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech and participate in a roundtable discussion. The discussion will include Nancy Staudt, vice president of RAND, and other experts, focusing on inter-Korean relations and the rapidly changing global order.

During his visit, Moon will also visit the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and tour the Lane Victory, a U.S. cargo ship recognized for its role in rescuing approximately 7,000 people during the Hungnam evacuation in the 1950-53 Korean War.
