First Funeral for Auto Parts Factory Fire Victims Held in Daejeon

Daejeon: The first funeral for the 14 workers who tragically lost their lives in last week's factory fire at an auto parts company was held in Daejeon on Wednesday. The somber event took place at Chungnam National University Hospital's funeral parlor, located 160 kilometers south of Seoul. Family members, relatives, and friends gathered to pay their respects and bid farewell to one of the victims, identified by his family name, Choi.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the mourners struggled to hold back tears during the initial stages of the ceremony. However, as the encoffining and departure of the funeral procession commenced, the emotional weight of the loss became palpable, and they could no longer contain their grief. The presence of Choi's young son and elderly father brought an added layer of poignancy to the proceedings. Choi's father, in a quiet moment of farewell, expressed his sorrow and acceptance, saying, "My son, you have suffered a lot. Let's go now."

The devastating fire erupted at Anjun Industrial Co.'s plant in the Munpyeong-dong district of Daejeon last Friday. The blaze resulted in the deaths of 14 workers and left 60 others injured.
