SEOUL - Foreign investors continued their buying spree in the South Korean stock market for the eighth consecutive month in June, according to newly released data.
According to Yonhap News Agency, offshore investors acquired a net total of 2.9 trillion won (US$2.15 billion) in South Korean listed stocks last month. As of the end of June, foreign ownership of local stocks increased to 859.2 trillion won, making up 30 percent of the total market capitalization, a rise from 29.1 percent at the end of the previous month. Notably, U.S. investors were the major net buyers, purchasing 2.1 trillion won in shares, while Singaporean investors net sold 2.9 trillion won. Additionally, despite the continued interest in stocks, foreign investors sold off 1.05 trillion won worth of listed bonds, bringing their total bond holdings to 251.5 trillion won, or 9.8 percent of all listed bonds in South Korea.
