SEOUL — In a meeting with Japan’s newly appointed ambassador to South Korea, Koichi Mizushima, Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul highlighted the need for a mutually considerate approach to manage pending bilateral issues, the Foreign Ministry reported on Friday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, During the discussions, Cho pointed out that as South Korea and Japan approach the 60th anniversary of normalizing their diplomatic ties, it is crucial for both nations to adopt a perspective that promotes understanding and cooperation. Mizushima echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of trust and ongoing communication between the leaders and diplomats of both countries. The meeting also addressed broader regional cooperation, noting the current collaborative efforts between South Korea, the United States, and Japan in light of increasing ties between North Korea and Russia. This dialogue underscores a significant improvement in relations since President Yoon Suk Yeol’s administration began in May 2022, which has prioritized cooperative international relations for future generations.
Mizushima, who took office in Seoul this May, succeeds the outgoing envoy, Koichi Aiboshi.
