Seoul: A special counsel team announced on Friday the indictment of four lawmakers from the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) on charges of obstructing investigators in their efforts to detain former President Yoon Suk Yeol. The incident is linked to Yoon's unsuccessful attempt to implement martial law in 2024.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Reps. Na Kyung-won, Kim Gi-hyeon, Kwon Young-jin, and Yoon Sang-hyun are charged with special obstruction of official duties. The lawmakers are accused of forming a human barrier alongside Yoon's supporters outside the presidential residence on January 15, 2025. This event marked the second attempt by investigators to detain Yoon concerning his martial law initiative.
The special counsel team contends that the actions of the lawmakers exceeded mere opposition, arguing that their conduct directly impeded the investigators' execution of the detention warrant for Yoon.
