Incheon:The presidential office plans to hold a pan-government meeting to discuss response measures following a series of high-profile crimes, including a recent stabbing spree targeting random individuals.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the meeting has been organized at the instruction of President Lee Jae Myung. It will bring together officials from the justice, gender equality, health, and education ministries, as well as the police, to discuss strategies for responding to crime. This initiative follows recent incidents that have highlighted the need for effective crime prevention measures.
President Lee emphasized the importance of government measures to prevent violent crimes, particularly those targeting random victims and interpersonal crimes involving family members and intimate partners. These have become significant social challenges, according to the presidential office.
The agenda for Thursday's meeting will focus on crime response measures, with an emphasis on victim protection, monitoring of electronic anklets, and providing assistance to crime victims.
Recently, a 59-year-old man embarked on a stabbing spree at a shopping complex in Incheon, injuring eight people. In another incident, a man in his 20s was arrested for stabbing his mother-in-law to death and kidnapping his wife, who was attempting to annul their marriage. President Lee instructed special response measures to be developed after visiting the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, where he was briefed on the stabbing spree case.
