Gwangju:With a standout performance, designated hitter Han Jun-su played a crucial role in keeping the Kia Tigers alive in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason. Han delivered both the game-tying and go-ahead singles as the Tigers defeated the Samsung Lions 4-2 in Game 4 of the second round at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the best-of-five series is now tied at two games each, with the decisive Game 5 scheduled for Sunday at Daegu Samsung Lions Park. The Lions initially led 1-0, with Chris Paddack excelling on the mound, limiting the Tigers to one hit through the first three innings. However, Han's single in the fourth inning brought in the first run for the Tigers.
A solo home run by Choi Hyoung-woo put the Lions ahead again in the sixth, but the Tigers responded with three runs in the seventh inning. An error by Kim Young-woong set up Harold Castro's game-tying single, paving the way for Han's pivotal hit against reliever Lee Jae-hee. Han's single pushed the Tigers ahead, and a follow-up single by Ha Ju-suk extended the lead to 4-2.
Closer Jeon Sang-hyun secured the victory by getting the final six outs. Han's impressive performance on Friday saw him go 3-for-4 at the plate, bringing his series average to .417. Reflecting on his clutch hit, Han said he was looking for an inside pitch and managed to connect well.
A loss would have ended the Tigers' season, but Han expressed determination to avoid regret, emphasizing the team's focus. Normally a catcher, Han has been alternating duties with Kim Tae-gun, contributing as a designated hitter or pinch hitter. Manager Lee Bum-ho, a fan of Han's batting skills, has structured the roster to include three catchers, allowing both Kim and Han to play crucial roles in the lineup.
