Riyadh: Hanwha Aerospace Co. announced a new partnership with Estonian missile systems firm, Frankenburg Technologies, to jointly develop counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) technology for next-generation land weapon platforms. The collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on the sidelines of the World Defense Show (WDS) 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the MOU outlines that Hanwha Aerospace will focus on integrating the C-UAS technology into its platforms, while Frankenburg Technologies will develop the guided missiles, launchers, and fire control software. The technology is being considered for Hanwha's next-generation command armored vehicle currently under development.
The partnership underscores Hanwha Aerospace's expanding collaboration with the Estonian defense industry. The company has previously entered agreements with other Estonian firms, including Nortal, SensusQ, and Milrem Robotics. Hanwha Aerospace first established connections with Estonia through the supply of its K9 self-propelled howitzers in 2020 and the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher system in late 2025.
Kim Dong-hyeon, head of Hanwha Aerospace's land systems division, highlighted the significance of the MOU, stating it as a crucial opportunity to enhance the survivability and competitiveness of future land weapon systems against the rising threat of drones on the battlefield.
