Hanwha Systems Secures Agreement with Boeing for Advanced Cockpit Displays

Seoul: Hanwha Systems Co., a defense solutions unit of South Korea's Hanwha Group, announced it has signed a contract with Boeing Co. to supply advanced cockpit displays for F-15K and F-15EX fighter jets. Under this new agreement, Hanwha Systems will provide the Eagle Large Area Display (ELAD) for Boeing's fighter aircraft as part of an initiative to upgrade the cockpit displays for its global F-15 fighter fleet, which includes South Korea's F-15K jets and the U.S. Air Force's F-15EX.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the ELAD is a high-definition, color display that consolidates tactical data and flight information into a single large screen, enhancing pilots' situational awareness and the overall effectiveness of the aircraft. This contract follows a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the South Korean arms procurement agency and Boeing last year, aimed at expanding collaboration with Korean companies on the F-15 upgrade project.

Hanwha Systems expressed that this deal is anticipated to bolster the company's participation in Boeing's global programs and facilitate its entry into the U.S. market. A company official highlighted the significance of this export, stating, "The export of the ELAD is meaningful as it demonstrates that Hanwha Systems' aviation equipment technology and quality have been recognized in the U.S. market." The company plans to leverage its cooperation with the government to further expand its business opportunities in the global avionics market, including in the United States.

Boeing noted that this agreement signifies its first supply contract with a South Korean company for advanced avionics systems, rather than aircraft structural components. The deal is particularly notable as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of Boeing's partnership with South Korea.
