ULSAN—HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. (HD KSOE) has announced securing a substantial order worth 219.5 billion won (approximately US$159 million) to construct two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers. The order, placed by an unspecified shipper based in the Middle East, underscores the company's ongoing dominance in the global shipbuilding industry.
According to Yonhap News Agency, The vessels will be constructed at the HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, which lies 299 kilometers southeast of Seoul, with a scheduled delivery by April 2027, as per HD KSOE's regulatory filing. HD KSOE operates under the umbrella of HD Hyundai, formerly known as Hyundai Heavy Industries Holdings, and includes subsidiaries such as HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, and HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co.
This new contract propels HD KSOE's annual order intake to $16.56 billion, surpassing its set target of $13.5 billion for the year, indicating robust demand and a strong market presence in the competitive shipbuilding sector.
