New york: Hyundai Motor Group announced on Thursday that its sales in the United States reached an unprecedented high in the first half of the year, fueled by significant demand for hybrid vehicles.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai Motor America sold 450,568 vehicles in the U.S. market during the January-June period, marking a 3 percent increase compared to the previous year. This figure represents Hyundai's best-ever performance for the first half of any year. The company also recorded a remarkable June sales figure, with an 11 percent year-on-year increase, achieving 77,055 vehicles sold in the key consumer market.
Hyundai attributed the sales growth to the burgeoning demand for its hybrid models, which include the Elantra Hybrid, Sonata Hybrid, and Tucson Hybrid. The increasing consumer interest in environmentally friendly vehicles has evidently played a significant role in boosting the company's overall sales performance.
Kia America also reported record-breaking first-half sales in the U.S., with 430,727 vehicles sold in the first six months, reflecting a 3 percent rise from the same period last year. Leading the surge in sales was the Sportage Hybrid, which experienced a remarkable 136 percent increase during the six-month span. Additionally, the Carnival and Telluride models posted impressive double-digit growth rates of 21 percent and 20 percent, respectively.
Kia's sales figures for June also set a new record for the month, with a 10 percent rise from the previous year, resulting in 70,507 vehicles sold. The robust performance of both Hyundai and Kia underscores the growing consumer preference for hybrid vehicles in the United States market.
