Hyundai Appoints Former Nvidia VP Park Min-woo to Lead Autonomous Driving Program

Seoul: Hyundai Motor Group announced on Tuesday the appointment of Park Min-woo, a former Vice President at Nvidia Corp., as the new head of its autonomous driving program, as competition in the software-defined vehicle (SDV) sector intensifies.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Park will helm the group's Advanced Vehicle Platform (AVP) division, spearheading efforts to advance and commercialize vehicle software technologies. In addition to his new role, Park will also serve as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of 42dot, Hyundai Motor's software research arm.

Park is recognized for his expertise in computer vision-based autonomous driving. During his tenure at Nvidia, he was instrumental in the development of the company's autonomous driving perception technology framework. Park's career also includes experience at Tesla, where he contributed to the company's advancements in autonomous vehicle technology.

The change in leadership follows the sudden resignation of Park's predecessor, Song Chang-hyeon, last month. Song's departure was perceived as a move to take responsibility for the group's slow progress in next-generation vehicle technologies. Despite significant investment in the AVP division, Hyundai was seen as lagging behind its competitors in the autonomous driving space.
