SEOUL — Hyundai Motor Group has seen a significant increase in its electric vehicle (EV) sales in the United States, with a 60.8 percent jump during the first half of the year, according to a report released by the Korea Automobile and Mobility Association (KAMA) on Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the conglomerate, which includes Hyundai Motor Co., Kia Corp., and Genesis brands, sold a total of 61,843 EV units in the January-June period, up from 38,457 units in the same period last year. The combined sales for EVs, plug-in hybrids, and hydrogen fuel cell models from these brands reached 72,528 units, marking a 46.4 percent increase year-over-year. This growth has enhanced the Korean brands’ combined market share in the U.S. EV market to 10.2 percent, a rise of 2.8 percentage points from last year.
Hyundai Motor and Genesis experienced a combined sales increase of 32.5 percent, selling 32,592 EVs, driven largely by aggressive local promotions of models like the Ioniq 5. Meanwhile, Kia's EV sales more than doubled, with a 111 percent increase, totaling 29,251 units, buoyed by strong performances from models such as the EV9.
The Ioniq 5 emerged as the fourth best-selling EV model in the U.S., with sales of 18,728 units. Kia's EV6 and EV9 also performed well, ranking 10th and 11th in the U.S. EV sales, with 10,941 and 9,671 units sold, respectively.
